LAKES OF NEPAL

RARA TAL

There are many lakes in the country. Mahendratal (Raradaha) is the greatest lake of Nepal. It is in Mugu district of Karnali Zone. It is about 5.2km long, 1.5km wide and about 167 metres deep. Fewatal, Rupatal, Begnastal, Dipangtal, Maidital, etc. are in kaski district of Gandaki Zone. Tilichotal is in Manang district is situated in the highest altitude in the world (4919 metres). Phoksundotal is in Dolpa district is also at a high altitude of 3,613 metres. The Gosainkunda, the Bhairabkunda, Suryakunda, etc. in the Langtang Himal, are of religious importance. The Titicaca lake in Bolivia is the highest navigable lake in the world at the height of 3812 metres above the sea level.
